Enrollees will complete an online vocational program which includes the following course titles: Applied Mathematics: Description: There are 7 levels of Applied Mathematics, all designed to help the employee to solve problems that arise in the workplace by applying mathematical skills. The materials present information related to mathematical operations, conversions, symbols, interpretation of graphic representation, and practical calculations. Locating Information: Description: There are 6 levels of Locating Information. The courses focus on basic reading skills and workplace vocabulary. These courses are aimed to improve the employee's understanding of conventional symbols and visuals as well as develop methods used to organize and represent information. Reading for Information: Description: The 7 levels of Reading for Information are workplace skill-builders, designed for those whose jobs need effective reading ability. Applied Technology: Description: The 6 levels of Applied Technology cover, one step at a time, the basic principles and workplace applications of technological systems. The systems which are explored in the Applied Technology courses are thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, electricity, and mechanics. The materials and activities relate to basic and complex tools, problem diagnosis, and solution of malfunctions. Listening: Description: The 5 levels of Listening are concerned with the skills necessary to listen and communicate effectively with others in the workplace environment. The types of oral messages discussed include phone conversations, meeting discussions, orientation talks, specific instructions, proposals, evaluations, as well as many other types of communication. Observation: Description: Through 6 levels, Observation presents techniques to help the employee be an efficient observer in any workplace situation. The combination of good listening habits and skillful observation is examined. The courses include frequent opportunities for practicing observation skills and techniques.
Teamwork: Description: Teamwork covers 6 levels, each emphasizing how to work effectively in groups. The activities include role-playing and writing assignments that develop teamwork skills to the point that the employee can go into any workplace situation with confidence. Writing and Business Writing: Description: There are 5 levels of Writing, each emphasizing the skills necessary to communicate effectively with others in a variety of workplace situations. Writing activities are based on typical written communication in the workplace – memos, letters, messages, reports, proposals, evaluations, budgets, and other forms of correspondence. Work Habits: Description: For a long time, employers have been expressing the need for employees with ‘soft skills.’ The 5 levels of Work Habits present skills such as interpersonal interaction, listening and speaking, cooperation and respect, self management, resource management, time management, quality management, and problem solving.
